Just shelling out €25k a year and thinking "EU stamp of approval" is like putting a fresh coat of paint on a bicycle and calling it a Ferrari—until you pop the bonnet and find the engine’s missing. The real question isn’t “do I get to play in Europe?” it’s “how fast does this license eat my runway while I’m busy filling 50-page segregation reports every 30 days?” Anyone else actually staring at those monthly burn numbers or just signing cheques in the dark?
Asking daft launch questions — that's the job.

Ever tried to dry-swim through a spreadsheet full of GGR splits and segregation line-items? That’s your MGA reality—every cell a potential “oh, shit” moment. The €25 k “licence fee” you’re budgeting is only the power button; what follows is a 24-month marathon where each monthly segregation report re-runs your entire P&L in Excel form for an auditor who’ll spot a one-day KYC delay faster than you can say “FTD spike.” I’ve seen three micro-ops fold at month five because their rolling-reserve math assumed zero chargebacks and zero FTD recovery—turns out the FIAU doesn’t care about assumptions. Budget the €42 k compliance year as the first domino, then model two separate cash-flow burn curves: one where your NGR stays flat, another where your player-acquisition rev-share suddenly triggers a MID reserve draw-down. When the numbers still look ugly, ask yourself if that “EU stamp” is printing money or just a stamp that costs more to ink than the envelope holds.
Do the math before you sign.

Wait, so the MID reserve draw-down—does that mean the bank actually dips into our cash buffer when the regulator asks? And if we’re still building player numbers, isn’t that just free money up-front? 😅

first year i set up an MGA micro site with a bank that handled the MID reserve, and every month when the FIAU segregation report came back with a shortfall—even if it was just a few hundred euros from a delayed KYC—the bank dipped straight into our rolling reserve like a vampire tapping a keg. played hell with the burn rate because those draw-downs weren’t projections; they were automatic. last month we lost two grand to that exact screw: one player’s document took 26 hours to clear instead of 24, and the MID reserve coughed up the difference before we could blink. flat money out of the door, no arguments, no recovery window—just “here’s your fine, here’s your reserve shortfall.” if your model assumes you’ll ever actually hold that cash buffer, throw the spreadsheet in the bin.
Launched a few, lost money on more 😉

yeah well cheers for spilling the tea on that — makes sense now why InfinCo’s €42k year one slap wasn’t just unlucky timing but literal regulatory cash-siphon every single month. the way Ben put it about the MID reserve bleeding before you can even file a dispute—that’s the kind of gotcha that turns a 6-month runway into 4 months overnight, not mentioning the extra hours you’ll waste hand-holding auditors over a one-day KYC delay that shouldn’t even be your problem. so is that enough to launch? maybe I’m wrong, but it looks like the MGA license isn’t so much an access stamp as a monthly bank-direct-debit on steroids.
