Just landed Curacao eGaming and already my payment monkey’s demanding 10 % rolling reserve against GGR like it’s some harmless admin fee 😬 Where do they even pull this “NGR in the same breath” nonsense from?
Asking daft launch questions — that's the job.

funny how a licence arrives and suddenly every wallet starts whispering about reserves like it’s some ancient debt collectors’ trick you never signed up for. happened to me in 2017 when we flipped from old school offshore to the first “regulated-looking” Curacao under eGaming. payment guy phoned saying they’d freeze the MID if i didn’t cough up 10 % rolling reserve against GGR, and then he slid NGR into the same slide like it was the same coin. turns out it’s not, and i learned that the hard way when the first month’s GGR hit €180 k and they wanted €18 k on day one while my real cash buffer was sitting at 3 %. classics. here’s the split for the licence you just bought: rolling reserve is always calculated on GGR, never NGR, because NGR is what’s left after you already paid everything—affiliates, chargebacks, refunds, rev-share, the works. so if your GGR is 100 € your rolling reserve is 10 €, period. NGR is just window dressing they fling around when they want to confuse the math so you forget who’s holding the gun. now can you negotiate? sure, but treat it like any other vendor leverage game. start low: quote them 5 % as your first offer and see where they cave. if they play tough, remind them curacao eGaming only demands a minimum 2 % in the licence terms—so 10 % is house policy, not law. tell them you’ll shop the MID to another acquirer if they don’t budge. most payment monkeys blink first when you threaten to move €200 k monthly volume to another gateway who still remembers the days when you could open a merchant account with a half-arsed excel sheet.
Been offshore since Curacao was cheap.

So you’re telling me your payment provider wants to lock 10 % of your GGR while using NGR like it’s some flexible cushion you can lean on? That’s not a reserve, that’s straight-up ransom dressed in compliance lingo. ExVendorKnows387 nailed it—GGR is the only metric that matters here because reserves exist to cover the risk of frozen chargebacks and affiliate payouts, and those come out of gross turnover, not your leftovers. You think NGR sounds smoother? It’s what’s left after life already extracted its pound of flesh; they’re just sprinkling fairy dust to make the pill easier to swallow. How did we get here anyway? In 2019 my old job switched from a lazy Belize shell to Curacao eGaming just in time for Stripe to ghost us over “unspecified risk.” The new gateway didn’t blink before imposing an 8 % rolling reserve against GGR and slipped in an NGR reference the moment I asked for the calculation example. Turned out the spreadsheet they sent was projecting a theoretical NGR margin of 40 %, so they tried to sell me on a 4 % reserve based on that nonsense. I pulled the licence document clause by clause and found Curacao’s minimum is 2 %, so I countered with 3 %. They still cried foul—until I waved a competing quote from another acquirer that had zero rolling reserve for any metric. By Monday they’d dropped it to 5 %, and within two weeks we locked it at 4 % with a quarterly review. They grumbled about “dynamic risk modelling,” but when volume hit €300 k monthly GGR, suddenly their “dynamic” became a lot more accommodating. The play here isn’t begging, it’s leverage. You quote 5 %, mention the licence minimum of 2 %, and immediately pivot to “here’s the volume forecast for the next 12 months—decide if you want it.” If they hide behind “global policy,” ask for the policy document in writing with the signature block that ties it to your MID. Nine times out of ten they’ll drop it because Curacao reserves aren’t legislation—they’re vendor scare tactics. And if they don’t blink, shop the MID. There are still acquirers who treat a Curacao licence like an actual business, not a hostage negotiation.
Where's the proof?

yeah nah man i get the panic, 10 % rolling reserve on day one feels like a gut punch when your cash buffer’s still finding its feet, but that’s what you signed up for with Curacao eGaming lately—every payment monkey’s suddenly a compliance grandmaster the second your licence number pops up in their CRM 😅 ExVendorKnows387 hit it on the head though: GGR is the one bleeding, NGR is just the bruise after the ambulance left. payment providers don’t care about your “theoretical margins,” they want the gross so they can freeze your MID if some affiliate in Russia decides to FTD 50 k and they’re holding the bag. classic vendor reflex when they smell a fresh licence. iGamingFirstPro nailed the playbook—quote 5 %, wave the licence minimum like it’s holy text (it is, it’s 2 % remember?), and immediately hit them with your volume forecast like it’s a term sheet. i’ve done this dance twice now: first time they dropped to 6 % after a week, second go-round they signed the 4 % quarterly review and haven’t touched it since, even when GGR bounced to 250 k monthly. if they start waffling about “global risk model” or “dynamic tiers,” ask for the actual policy doc signed by a human with a job title, not a sales rep’s whatsapp screenshot. nine times out of ten that paper vanishes faster than a player’s bonus balance after the welcome offer. and if they still play hardball? shop the MID—there’s still a handful of acquirers who treat a Curacao licence like a business, not a revolving credit facility 💪

Can’t stand when a fresh Curacao licence hits the CRM and suddenly every acquirer’s risk desk starts sounding like a Greek chorus of bad news — “rolling reserve”, “NGR cushion”, “dynamic modelling” — all wrapped in so much jargon it sounds like they’re reading from the same compliance manual written in 2012. 😏 But here’s the thing: they’re not wrong, they’re just unpleasant. GGR *is* the number that counts when they’re deciding whether to freeze your MID over an affiliate FTD or a chargeback tsunami from Eastern Europe. NGR is what’s left after your rev-share partners, chargebacks and refunds have already taken their cut — so yeah, it’s the prettiest leftover, not the raw meat they’re after. Had a call last week with a PSP who kept insisting on 8 % rolling reserve on GGR for a new Curacao client. I just slid over the licence document with the 2 % minimum clause highlighted and said, *“Gentlemen, let’s park the ‘global policy’ nonsense — show me the signed risk policy tied to this MID or walk.”* Came back the next day with 4 % and a quarterly review baked in. Shop the MID if they don’t blink. Volume talks, compliance babbles. 🤫
Word is… but you didn't hear it here 🤫

10 % against GGR sounds like someone copied-paste the policy from a Costa Rica shell licence and forgot to delete the template. NGR is just the leftovers after your rev-share partners, refunds and chargebacks have already taken their chunk—so yeah, it’s the prettiest number on your spreadsheet but the wallet cares about the gross so they can freeze your MID if an affiliate in Moscow FTDs €60 k and vanishes. Ask them to show you the actual clause in YOUR MID contract where it says 10 %, not some global PDF with no signature block; once you see that blank spot they’ll drop it faster than a player spamming bonus code till the next update.
Learning from the operators who did it, go easy 🙏

You actually believe the licence minimum of 2 % is something they’ll respect when your month-on-month FTDs are already ticking up to 4 % by week two? eGaming’s 2 % isn’t a promise—it’s the floor the MIDs ignore the moment your affiliate list starts tilting toward jurisdictions Curacao’s own KYC desk flags as high-risk. I’ve seen three fresh Curacao licences in the past six months where the acquirers started at 8 %, hid behind “global risk model,” then locked the MID at 6 % after the first chargeback wave—because the licence document doesn’t live inside their payment gateway, the reserve clause in the MID contract does. So unless you’ve got that MID contract open in front of you right now with a wet-ink signature and the reserve percentage typed in bold under section 5.2, treat every “we’re happy to meet the minimum” line like the opening bid in a poker game where the bluff is you still think 10 % is negotiable without actual leverage.
The contract tells you more than the pitch.

So if the licence itself only guarantees 2 % but they’re asking for 10 %, is there even a legal leg to stand on when I push back? or are we really just haggling with whatever clause is buried in that MID contract 😬
